I thought we were past the days of unskippable logos when booting a game? South Park: The Stick of Truth apparently didn’t get the memo, but that’s okay: You can alter a few files in the game’s directory to skip the pesky, irritatingly long logo videos when you start the game.
Note: this only works on the PC version of the game.
Get to the game folder
You have two methods to getting to the game’s folder:
- Right click on it in your Steam library, click on ‘Properties’, ‘Local Files’, and then ‘Browse Local Files’
- Go to C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonSouth Park – The Stick of Truth
Within the game’s directory itself, click on data and then movies. The full directory will be something like C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonSouth Park – The Stick of Truthdatamovies.
Altering the logo files
The files you want to target are:
- 000_autodesk.bk2
- 000_obsidian.bk2
- 000_spds.bk2
- 000_ubisoft.bk2
You want to change the names of these files so the game can’t read them as they would normally. You can add an extra letter or word to the game files (for instance 000_obsidianno.bk2, 000_NOobsidian.bk2, etc.) to make it unreadable.
Something to note is that you do not want to alter any other movie files in this manner. The files affect just about every corner of the game, and changing one of the other files can break your copy. Only alter the files listed above lest you actually want to break your game!
You can move or delete the files
If you don’t want to deal with the renaming, you can alternatively delete or move the files in question.
Most people recommend renaming them, but getting them out of the movies folder altogether is my preferred method. I simply cut the four files listed above and pasted them in the data folder. Your game will launch sans intro movies just as well as simply renaming your files.
Again: Do not alter, move, or delete any ‘bk2 files aside from those listed above.
