1. Optifine HD

This mod is for version 1.6.1/ 1.6.2/ 1.5.2  and doubles the frames per second-rate in your world. It also improves graphics by giving you support for HD textures. You will have better customization by being able to change rending, fog, weather and other visual options.

2. MCPatcher HD Fix

This mod is for version 1.6.2 and allows you to switch between mods and texture/resource packs in the game without closing it. It is mostly used for adding HD textures packs and new skins.

3. Magic Launcher

This mod loads other mods dynamically without changing or patching minecraft.jar. Basically this should stop any mod installation problems that arise.
