The BG3 modding community is thriving and there are already plenty of mods adding new classes, subclasses, and races. I wanted to outline some of my favorites that you can add to your game right now. Here are my top 10 Baldur’s Gate 3 mods adding new classes and races.
Best BG3 Mods for Adding New Classes and Races
Artificer Class and All Subclasses
One of my favorite BG3 mods is Kiderion’s Artificer mod which adds an entire new class from the D&D 5e ruleset and all its subclasses. The Artificer is your magic item crafter with tons of support-oriented spells and abilities. They can enchant your gear sure, but the subclasses drastically expand their skill set. Become the ultimate potion maker with Alchemist, have your own robot pet with Battle Smith, or become Ironman with the Armorer.
Fantastical Multiverse
The Fantastical Multiverse mod adds a massive collection of new races to the game. You can play as Goblins, Half Vampires, Firbolgs, Hobgoblins, Minotaurs, and more. There are even variations of existing races and even races modified by Mind Flayers. If you’re looking for new races, this is the package for you.
Cleric Subclasses
Clerics like Wizards have a ton of subclasses depending on their domain of worship. The Cleric Subclasses mod by Baltavi not only adds all the Cleric subclasses from the TTRPG books but expands them to Level 20. Furthermore, you can level up existing subclasses to 20 as well. Choose between the Arcana, Blood, Forge, Death, and many more domains to create your perfect Cleric.
Half Angel and Whispers of the Divine
One of the most popular races since D&D 3.5 is the angelic Aasimar and both the Half Angel and Whispers of the Divine mod add it to BG3. Become a guardian angel for your party with healing abilities and gain flight with your angelic wings. Both mods implement the race well but I like the cosmetic customization options of Half Angel more.
Blood Hunter Class
WolfeTK has managed to add the entire Blood Hunter base class by Matthew Mercer from Critical Role. They even introduce two subclasses the Lycan and the Ghostslayer. For those unfamiliar, this is a Witcher-inspired monster hunter class with various elemental weapon buffs and blood magic. Become the ultimate slayer or witch hunter and even a werewolf with the Lycan subclass.
Death Knight Class
Speaking of blood magic, the Death Knight Class mod by VivaSortiara adds the highly popular WoW class to Baldur’s Gate 3. Channel the infamous three runes of Blood, Frost, and Unholy. These are both the subclasses and resources for your abilities. Blood is a self-healing tanky build, Frost is all about critical hits, and Unholy summons undead minions.
Half Demon (Cambion)
We had the Aasimar so now we have its opposite, the Cambion. This is a demonic race in D&D, more specifically, it’s a half-fiend if we’re going by Baldur’s Gate 3 and D&D lore. Essentially, it’s a Tiefling variation in the game that can have wings, various resistances, pacts, and even an aura. It’s a powerhouse of a race with abilities at almost every level.
Rogues Extra
The Rogues Extra is a massive class mod for those who love to stealth around and deliver Sneak Attacks. The mod adds various Rogue subclasses from the psionically-infused Soul Knife to the death-channeling Phantom. I highly recommend trying them all out through Withers since they’re all incredibly fun to play. That said, I would skip Inquisitive because it’s mostly a roleplaying class and not the most effective in combat.
Expansion (Bladesinger Only)
Want the best gish in D&D 5e? The Bladesinger is here mixing melee and magic to its utmost potential. This is one of the most powerful subclasses in D&D 5e since you can buff up your defenses to drastic heights. Furthermore, Bladesingers have the most powerful Extra Attack in BG3 since they can replace attacks with a cantrip so I recommend combining this mod with 5e Spells for Booming Blade and Green Flame Blade.
Hexblade Subclass and New Invocations
Last but not least, we have the Hexblade Warlock which is what any Pact of the Blade Warlock build wanted in the first place. I’m not entirely sure why Larian didn’t add the Hexblade in the first place as a subclass but Feriat111 is here to fix this. You get all the goodies like having your attacks scale with Charisma, summoning Specters, Armor of Hexes, etc. This subclass is also great to combine with Swords Bards or Paladins to create the ultimate melee spellcasting builds.
That’s it for my list of the top 10 Baldur’s Gate 3 mods for adding new classes and races. For more Baldur’s Gate 3 lists check out my top 10 character creation mods as well as how to fix mods not working if you’re having this issue.
