After a series of upgrades made for your own drillship, the captain will ask you to go on your first truly dangerous mission – Lava Source. It will require you to go under the mountain and destroy the enemy drill station that provokes all the lava to flow out.

If you’re having trouble completing this hard quest, then follow our step-by-step guide below.

Step 1: Destroy Turret

After you set up turrets on your own drillship, you will be given the coordinates of the first Lava Source located in the southeastern part of the map.

Travel to the given destination and you will end up drilling under the mountain and into a cave, where enemy COGs have set up their laser drill station that keeps disturbing the earth.

As soon as you arrive at the enemy drill, the first thing you need to do is to destroy the turret that protects the enemy drill.

The fastest and most reliable way of removing the turret is to use grenades. There are two reasons for this:

  • First of all, you can throw grenades from a distance and take cover as soon as turret starts shooting you.
  • Second, if you throw it well and it hits the turret, it will be destroyed immediately.

But even in case you take cover behind rocks, stay alert as COGs are always very active in this area and they will be chasing you. So just keep your shotgun ready and switch to killing COGs when necessary.

Step 2: Destroy Cranes

When you’ve dealt with the turret and the COGs you can start destroying cranes. If you have a lot of grenades, then you can use them, too. However, crafting grenades can be expensive, so use them only in dire situations.

Instead of grenades you can use a simple pickaxe to remove the cranes. Just walk up to them and hit until they blow up. It’s a bit slower, but you get to keep your grenades intact.

You will notice that cranes are located on different sides of the drill that are separated by a giant crack in the earth. If you don’t know how to get to the other cranes, then just walk around the crack and try not to fall down. Soon you will find yourself on the other side of it.

Step 3: Withstand the COG Attack

After you’ve destroyed all three cranes, get ready for the final COG attack.

A drillship will emerge from the ground and a wave of COGs will attack you. Your best bet here is to run towards your own drillship and shoot the COGs with your shotgun.

So be well prepared before going out and craft as much ammo as you can afford. When you’re back inside your own ship, the COGs will back down.
