Changing your character’s clothes in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader should’ve been an easy thing to implement, but it looks like a real issue for now. I want it to be easier. You want it to be easier. So here, I’ll show you how to change clothes and hide your helmet.

Once you choose your character’s Origin, you get to wear the characteristic robe of the chosen faction for the entirety of your playthrough. Even if you equip a piece of chest armor, it goes right on top of that robe, and there’s no option to change the robe in any of the game’s settings.

But I can assure you that there’s actually a way to unlock full body armor in the later stages of the game that covers the whole robe from head to toe. There are several Power Armor variations as early as Act 1 and Act 2 that cover your Rogue Trader, completely hiding that pesky robe underneath it. Here are the ones that I was able to discover, but I’m sure there are more:

  • Hereticus Heavy Bolter: Dropped by the final boss in Act 1.
  • Familial Power Armor: Lootable from enemies.
  • Faction Power Armors: Purchasable from factions, such as Argenta, Ulfar, and Pasqal in Act 2.

You’ll need to have your Strength stat buffed to at least 45 points before being able to wear the heavy full-body armor, and then you can equip it by following these steps:

  1. Go to the “Pregenerated Character” menu.
  2. Select a character you wish to equip with power armor.
  3. Move the individual pieces to their respective slots on the chosen character.

If you simply wish to hide the helmet but keep the rest of the armor intact, then you can do so in the Appearance menu:

  1. Go to the “Pregenerated Character” menu.
  2. Select the “Appearance” feature.
  3. Go to the “Appearance” tab.
  4. Press the “Outfit Settings” button in the top-right corner under the character icon.
  5. Toggle the “Show Helmet” option to “OFF.”
