Besides the ten main story companions you can recruit in Rogue Trader, there are also three secret ones. These have specific recruitment conditions that are based on one of the three Conviction ranks. Here’s how to recruit all secret companions in Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader.
How to Recruit All Secret Companions in Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader
As we mentioned, the ability to recruit secret companions depends on your Dogmatic, Heretical, or Iconoclast rank. Essentially, you’ll need to reach the third level called Votary for whatever Conviction you choose. Reaching level three is possible for only one Conviction path as it then locks you out of level three for the other two. Before we talk about how to recruit them, here are the secret companions and the convictions you need for them:
- Incendia Bastaal-Chorda (Dogmatic Rank 3): A prosperous Lord-Captain blessed by the adherents Saint Drusus.
- Calligos Winterscale (Iconoclast Rank 3): A stalwart and proud warrior who rules with an iron first.
- Uralon the Cruel (Hereticus Rank 3): A powerful daemon who tempts, manipulates, and transforms his followers.
While you’ll get to recruit these secret companions through the later acts of the game, I highly recommend you plan your Conviction path ahead of time. Reaching the Votary rank in your chosen path should be a priority so that you can recruit these secret companions for the Chapter 4 battle. Note that if you go down the Hereticus path, certain companions like Argenta will leave you. Here’s how to recruit all of them.
How to Recruit Incendia Bastaal-Chorda in Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader
For Incendia and Calligos, the recruitment process is quite simple and you’ll get several chances to do so. I would just make sure you optimize your dialogue choices to reach Dogmatic Rank 3. Incendia can be found during the Coronation in Chapter 2 of the game. You can talk to her there and increase your Dogmatic rank so that you can recruit her.
More specifically, the recruitment is actually done during Chapter 4 in the main trade hub Footfall. One of the quests there involves ambushing Incendia and here you can convince her that her path doesn’t align with her god. If she survives, she’ll join you in the final battle.
How to Recruit Calligos Winterscale in Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader
The process for Calligos is similar. You’ll meet him during the Coronation in Chapter 2 where you can talk to him and increase your Iconoclast rank. As before you’ll need Rank 3 Votary in Iconoclast. Then, he can be at Quetza Tamer in Chapter 4. He’ll be at the Hunting Grounds fighting Aeldari. Choose to find a peaceful resolution to the conflict or help him fight the Aeldari which causes him to join you in the final battle of Chapter 4.
How to Recruit Uralon in Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader
Uralon has a slightly different and more complex recruitment method as is fitting for the Hereticus path. His recruitment involves the Chaos Blade left by Kunrad Voigtvir which you’ll pick up during the Prologue naturally. Moreover, you’ll pick up another Blade Shard during a random event in Chapter 1. I must state that it’s really important that you keep it for recruiting Uralon. From here, you’ll find another shard on Rykad Minoris when you explore the Command Center. We need both for Chapter 4.
During Chapter 4 you’ll reach Eufrates II by following the story. If your Hereticus rank is high enough, your ship will change visually and you’ll get a chaos altar in your Rogue Trader chamber. Interact with the altar and use both Chaos Blade pieces to worship Chaos. All you have to do now is follow the Eufrates II story but instead of siding with the Space Marines, you’ll have to defeat them and sacrifice the planet to Chaos. Uralon the Cruel will then join you as a secret companion.
