MMOs struggle to make it easy to swap between characters without feeling like you’re losing a lot of progress. Blizzard is aiming to address issues with alts becoming boring by using Warbands. But what are Warbands and how do they work in World of Warcraft: The War Within?
What are Warbands in World of Warcraft: The War Within?
Warbands are essentially a new system that helps consolidate all the characters on your Battle.net account. There’s a similar system already in place where collections are shared across your characters. So, you have access to items like toys and mounts—such as Lucid Nightmare—without needing to collect them on every new character you create. When The War Within releases, Warbands expands on what’s shared between characters. This means you won’t have to keep replaying content you have already completed every time you make an alt.
How do Warbands Work in World of Warcraft: The War Within?
While Blizzard hasn’t revealed every aspect that’s shared among a Warband, they provided a few examples of the new things that’ll be shared across your alts. These include Reputations, Renown, item appearances (without regard as to whether your current character can equip them), and a bank that makes it easier to access your items across characters.
The biggest factor to remember is that Warbands include all characters in a single region. If you have characters in multiple regions, they won’t be in the same Warband. So, characters you have in servers in the Americas can’t be in the same Warband as characters you have on European servers. Therefore, they won’t have the benefits of shared content.
Those are Warbands and how they work in World of Warcraft: The War Within. I love these changes, and I think that it makes having multiple characters feel like less of a chore. Especially if you don’t have the time to keep redoing content. Although this expansion isn’t available yet, we have plenty of content on our WoW guide hub for topics from both Retail and Classic.
