Wild Bastards has a rogue-like style of gameplay where you’re upgrading your current set of characters with whatever gear and loot you can find. Some of the most meaningful and powerful upgrades come in the form of Aces which can be used to unlock character mods. Learn all about the different types of Mods in Wild Bastards and how they work.
What are Aces in Wild Bastards
Mods allow you to unlock a permanent upgrade for your Outlaw and this will also level them up. You get mods by going down to planets and collecting a character’s Ace card. These are marked as Golden Card nodes on the map and are some of the most valuable loot available. Each Ace will be meant for a specific character and you can check this by hovering over or clicking on the Golden Ace icon on the map. This lets you judge the priority of that Ace card and whether it’s worth making a trip for or not.
All Ace Types in Wild Bastards Explained
Aces
These are the most standard type of Aces and each character can equip up to six of these each. Whenever you return to the ship with a Standard Ace, you can select one of three mod options to upgrade the Outlaw the Ace is for. You’ll get three options for upgrades and can only pick one of them. Note that there are different tiers of the same upgrade and it’s possible to stack multiples of the same upgrade. These Aces will define the way your Outlaw plays.
Core Aces
Core Aces are more special than the standard Outlaw Aces or the Charged Aces because they provide a specific buff tailored for your Outlaw. This upgrade is permanent and there are three Core Ace slots for each Outlaw. Usually, a planet or card node will always mention that the Ace here is a Core Ace upgrade for a specific character. Getting all three Core Aces or getting Core Aces for your most used characters can be a total game changer as these upgrades are more impactful than the standard Aces.
Charged Aces
Lastly, we have the Charged Aces which are buffs that work as long as your Outlaw isn’t tired. These are not generic either and each Outlaw will have a specified Charged Ace. You’ll notice that the battery meter for each Outlaw goes down whenever you exit a planet. When this meter is full, the Charged Ace is active and you’ll receive whatever buff it offers until you return to the ship. There is only one Charged Ace slot for every character. Getting a Charged Ace while already having one tends to upgrade it to its +1 Variant, which increases its effectiveness. Note that picking up a new Charged Ace completely refills the battery meter for the Outlaw it was used for.
