WoW Classic: How to Feed Your Pet as a Hunter in Season of Discovery and Hardcore

Unlike the retail version of WoW, pets in WoW Classic have happiness and loyalty levels that need to be maintained as a hunter. If a pet’s levels get too low, they’ll leave you. Here’s how to feed your pet as a hunter in WoW Classic Season of Discovery and Hardcore.

How to Feed a Hunter Pet in WoW Classic Season of Discovery and Hardcore

After you’re Level 10 and complete your class quest as a Hunter, you gain the ability to tame a beast so it becomes your pet. Additionally, you get a few other helpful spells, including Feed Pet, from the quest that follows training three beast types called “Taming the Beast.”

Feeding your pet not only heals it but also keeps its happiness and loyalty levels up so it doesn’t run away. This is particularly important with new pets, and you’ll find you need to feed them more often.

Where to Find the Feed Pet Spell in Your Spellbook

To find the Feed Pet spell in WoW, go into your spellbook and find the Beast Mastery tab. It’s the one with a hand firing an arrow. Once you find the spell and select it, your cursor will have a blue glow around it. Click on the food item you want to give your pet, and you’ll have successfully fed it.

Again, the Feed Pet spell won’t appear until after you complete the “Taming the Beast” quest that follows the chain where you tame three beasts. So if you can’t find it, then you haven’t completed that quest yet.

What Foods Should You Feed Your Pet?

Different pet types like different foods, but meat is generally a solid option, as most pet types like it. If you aren’t sure what to food feed your pet, go into your character sheet and then to the new beast tab for the pet. This gives you information about what your pet eats, like meat or fruit.

As long as you feed your pet a food from its diet, its loyalty and happiness increase. Otherwise, the pet won’t eat it at all. I learned this the hard way many years ago with my first hunter. Sadly, my pet ran away since I kept trying to feed it foods it didn’t like.
