Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom — How Fusing Works in TotK

Knowing how Fuse works in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom allows you to create unique weapons.

Link has several new abilities integral to his adventures across Hyrule, and knowing how Fusing works in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a necessity. You’ll have a difficult time getting through some areas and dungeons without using Fuse, and having it allows you to create fun, unique, and useful items. Attaching a boulder to a Rusty Sword makes it more powerful and allows you to bust crates, break through walls, and more. But that’s just the start of it. Here’s how Fusing works in TotK.

Fuse is an ability learned by entering and completing the In-Isa Shrine in the tutorial area. This is one of the three shrines you need to visit before entering the Temple of Time. In short, the Fusing gives you the ability to combine, attaching any item to your currently equipped weapon or shield.

How to Fuse in TotK

To use Fuse, hold “L” and select “Fuse” in the same way you would select “Ultrahand.” From there, target an object nearby that you want to Fuse to your shield (ZL to Fuse) or your equipped weapon (Y to Fuse).

You can also Fuse objects to your arrows by pulling your bow out with “ZR,” then use “Up” on the D-pad to equip objects from your inventory to your arrow. From there, you shoot as you normally would.

I find that Keese Eyeballs and Wings are particularly useful when attached to arrows because the eyes provide a homing effect while the wings increase the distance you can shoot the arrow.

Naturally, I complete the In-Isa shrine and started playing with Fuse. It took me about 10 minutes to set myself on fire, so be careful when you Fuse a Fire Fruit to a Stick and use it as a weapon since your surroundings can catch on fire.

How to Undo Fuse in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

You can also undo Fuse in TotK by removing the object from a weapon or shield when you no longer need it — or if you want to Fuse a new object to it.

To do so, open your inventory with “+” and go to the tab containing your weapons or shields, depending on which one you’re unfusing an object from. Then choose “Destroy fused material” to remove the Fused material, permanently destroying the attached material.

From there, you can play with Fuse to your heart’s content. I put a sail on a stick, and the resulting weapon could blow Keese away, stunning them momentarily. Although, not every combination is particularly useful. Fusing apples to arrows doesn’t do anything but waste apples.
