The Search for Kotlin quest in Tears of the Kingdom only initiates once you’ve found at least one Bubbul gem. You can find these treasures by defeating Bubbulfrogs, which can be found in the many caves across Hyrule.
Once you have one Bubbul gem — preferably a few actually — you can begin the Search for Kotlin. But first you need to have found his brother Kilton and done the Hunt for Bubbul Gems quest. If you haven’t found Kilton already head for Pico Pond, just outside Woodland Stable (1216, 1208, 0020), to start this quest.
How to Unlock the Search for Kotlin in Tears of the Kingdom
When you first find Kotlin and Kilton outside of Pico Pond, you will need to give them a Bubbul Gem to complete the “Hunt for Bubbul Gems” quest. Completing this objective will activate the next quest in the chain — “Search for Kotlin.”
How to Complete Search for Kotlin in Tears of the Kingdom
I found the brothers again in Tarrey Town in the Akkala region in the Northeast of Hyrule. This town is found in the center of Lake Akkala.
You’ll find Kilton in Tarrey Town, and he will tell you where you can find Kotlin and trade in more Bubbul gems. Kilton will point to a spot across the lake Northwest of Tarrey Town where he says Kotlin appears at night.
Just wait until nightfall and then you will see Kotlin’s trademark bright balloon across the way. His location is near the Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower, at coordinates (3660,2065,0168). Cross the lake by gliding or using a vehicle and climb the hill in front of you to reach Kotlin. Once you speak with Kotlin you will complete the Side Adventure.
Now you’ve finished the Search for Kotlin in TotK and can trade Bubbul Gems with Kotlin whenever you please — as long as its at night. This is just one way to turn your treasure into gear in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. For more tips and walkthroughs visit our TotK guides hub.
