Svarog can be hard to beat. One of the tougher story bosses in Honkai: Star Rail, you’ll have to go through him if you want to get out of Belabog’s underground. Like most enemies in the game, his attack list isn’t particularly long, but what he does have packs a punch, and he’s got a health bar three miles long. With the proper setup and strategy, it’s possible. Here’s how to defeat Svarog in HSR.
How to Beat Svarog in Honkai: Star Rail
Svarog will attack immediately as soon as the fight starts. As the fight progresses, he’ll use additional attacks.
- Burning Beam: A laser beam emitted from Svarog’s palm that deals at least 200 damage. Svarog often uses it as an extra attack.
- Shrewd Bombing: A party-wide missile barrage that doesn’t deal much damage in a single attack but adds up significantly as more missiles come in and can inflict multiple turns of the Defense Down debuff.
- Banishing Punch: A simple haymaker that deals as much damage as the Burning Beam, and Svarog often pairs the punch and the beam together.
- Boost Control: Svarog summons a robotic hand that grabs one of your party members with Oppressive Embrace, removing them from your lineup and dealing damage every turn for there turns. If allowed to Overload, it will detonate over one of your party members, dealing at least 700 damage with Controlled Blasting.
Bring Support: March 7 or Natasha
These attacks are all Svarog can muster, but thanks to his beefy health bar, expect to be sent packing if you don’t come with some kind of support character. We recommend March 7 if you haven’t been doing many pulls, but if you’ve managed to snag Natasha, she’s an even better option.
Heals and shields were essential during my fight with Svarog, and at this early point, unless you’ve gotten really lucky with pulls or spent some money to get better characters, they’re likely to be in your fight too.
Svarog Weaknesses
Svarog is weak to Wind, Lightning, and Fire, so Dan Heng is great for his single-target potential, and Serval, Asta, and Hook can also work wonders. Should you have any 5-stars in your collection, especially if you rerolled, Himeko, Bronya, or Bailu can come in very handy here.
Be Wary of Boost Control
That said, be especially careful of the Boost Control mechanic. During both of my fights against Svarog leveling a main and an alt, he grabbed the one character that could cripple the fight for me. If he summons his robot hand and uses Oppressive Embrace, redirect your focus to the hand immediately. Lightning damage is ideal here, and if I hadn’t leveled Serval, I can’t imagine how things would have gone.
Unleash Your Ultimates
Use your ultimates liberally but smartly. Keep your support character topped up first and foremost, then use them to augment your party composition. If you’re using any follow-up attack characters, especially Clara, ensure they have the survivability to last the whole fight. In other cases, provide characters with healing or shields as needed.
Once Svarog uses Shrewd Bombing once, the fight will temporarily stop as Natasha and Sampo arrive. When the battle resumes, all your characters will be fully healed with full Ultimates. Don’t be afraid to unleash those powerful abilities immediately. However, it may be best to hold onto your support Ultimates.
And that’s how to defeat Svarog in Honkai Star Rail. The fight will take a few minutes, but if you’re judicious with your heals and shields and break Svarog whenever possible, victory is all but assured.
