Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment Developing Story-Driven Star Wars Game

Ubisoft's Star Wars game will reportedly go heavy on lore and feature a massive open world, among other things.

Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment, makers of Tom Clancy’s The Division and Far Cry 3, is working on a new Star Wars game together with the newly re-formed Lucalfilm Games studio. Since this is the first bit of news and the game is very early days, there’s naturally no mention of release time frame or platforms.

The Ubisoft Star Wars game is planned as an open-world, lore-heavy entry telling an original story in the Star Wars universe, and Massive is building it on the Snowdrop engine used for Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 and Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle.

The unnamed Star Wars project is reportedly the first in a long line of Star Wars games Ubisoft will develop. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said in a press release:

The vast Star Wars lore is an incredible source of inspiration for our teams. This is the beginning of a long-term collaboration with Disney and Lucasfilm Games, and we are pleased to be working hand-in.

Ubisoft isn’t the only studio working with the Star Wars license moving forward. EA retains it, and LucasFilm Games VP Douglas Reilly said EA still has multiple Star Wars projects in the works spanning several teams.

So a Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order sequel is still feasible in the future, sitting alongside Ubisoft’s Star Wars game and whatever else LucasFilm Games comes out with. In other words, it’s a good time to be a Star Wars video game fan.
