Rathalos Takes Center Stage in New Monster Hunter Stories 2 Trailer

The Monster Hunter Stories 2 Summer Game Fest trailer makes us want to protect Rathalos at all costs.

Capcom is set to show off Monster Hunter Stories 2 during its E3 2021 presentation, but we got an early look at a new Monster Hunter Stories 2 trailer thanks to the Summer Game Fest. It’s a short one, but full of evocative imagery and gives us a sneaking suspicion Capcom will turn this into Monster Hunter: Old Yeller Edition and make us cry.

The trailer is all about Rathalos, the potentially world-destroying dragon that’s also your pet you raised from an egg.

This Rathalos is the focus of hatred and hope and takes on foes of all kinds, though the primary focus seems to be a strange cult that wants to awaken its horrible power (and hopefully, doesn’t hurt it in the process).

Other monsters stomp around the stage, including Tigrex and Diablos, and we know from Capcom’s big Monster Hunter Stories 2 deep dive in May that you can mix and match egg genes to customize your Monsties and get a competitive edge in battle.

After Capcom’s E3 presentation, we won’t have long to wait until we can meet the terrible Rathalos ourselves. Monster Hunter Stories 2 releases July 9 for Nintendo Switch and PC.
