A Fiber Laser Playing The Song ‘Still Alive’ From Portal

Move over floppy drives, lasers can make music too.
This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

We have heard music created by Minihui’s floppy band, but never a fiber laser. Who would have thought you could make music with a fiber laser? I haven’t, not until I saw this video by Chris Deprisco. Honestly, I’ve never even heard of a fiber laser.

The music is created by the laser beam hitting the stainless steel plate hundreds of times a second. Some of the pitches are off-key, but come on he’s using a freaking laser beam to make music.

The song is from the Valve game Portal and was written by Jonathan Coulton.
