Fire Emblem: Awakening was actually slated to be the final game in the series but, thanks to its success, the series lived on.

This comes from a recent installment of Iwata Asks, where the President of Nintendo had some questions for a few of the developers of Fire Emblem: Fates, the upcoming game in the series.

The Fire Emblem series, according to VGChartz.com, did not have a game sell over 1 million copies until Fire Emblem: Awakening sold 1.57 million copies world-wide.

According to Hitoshi Yamagami, Fire Emblem: Awakening was intended “to be the last in the series.” This was primarily because of the series’ poor sales numbers.

Upon receiving positive sales numbers, Shinji Hatano, the General Manager of the Nintendo Licensing Division, then began talks of another game in the series.

“If something sells, we start asking for the next installment.” –Hatano

Fire Emblem: Fates releases on 3DS in North America in 2016, and will even include same-sex marriages!

This just shows that you have to vote with your wallet, and show big companies the kind of content that you like. But should some series just end, even if critically they are still great? Let me know in the comments.
