If CD Projeckt Red pulls it off everything they’ve promised, Cyberpunk 2077 could be one of the most grandiose RPGs of all time. From what we’ve seen, there’s a very real possibility that just might be the case.
After being announced way back in 2012, CD Projekt Red fell silent on the project for roughly six years before unleashing a flurry of announcements surrounding the game starting at E3 2018. Now that Gamescom is here, we’re learning even more about our cyberpunk future.
Although no official gameplay has been revealed to the public as of this writing, we know from those who have seen it behind closed doors that Cyberpunk 2077 is a first-person RPG set in a fantastically realized sci-fi universe. It’s a game that pulls zero punches with its reportedly robust gameplay and mechanics, and it’s a game no fan of the genre is going to want to miss (duh).
Today at Gamescom 2018, CD Projekt Red unveiled brand-new screenshots and concept art from the game, showing Cyberpunk‘s vast, highly-detailed world and characters. You can view the screens and concept stills below:
According to reports coming out of Gamescom, CD Projekt Red is positioning Cyberpunk 2077 as one of the most intricate and nuanced RPGs the company has ever made. Speaking with PC Gamer, the game’s quest designer, Patrick Mills, talked about the how the game compares to The Witcher series, saying about the quest system:
I’ll say it’s a lot of work — they’re very, very complicated — but we try to think: if the player says, ‘an I do this?’ Then, yeah, actually you can, and then you deal with the consequences. That’s part of choice versus consequence — don’t just have that in the dialogues, but have it in the gameplay as well.
