Nearly two years after first revealing Tales of Arise, Bandai Namco finally announced a Tales of Arise release date in an extensive new trailer. Tales of Arise will release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on September 10.
The game’s delay in 2020 gave developers time to work on next-gen versions as well, which means Tales of Arise will also release on September 10 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Tales of Arise PS5 will take advantage of the DualSense in different ways, including different vibrations depending on the type of magic being used.
Bandai Namco also released several new pieces of information on Tales of Arise in a Famistu interview (translated by Gematsu).
The trailer revealed two new Tales of Arise characters, Rinwell the mage and Rowe the melee fighter. Both hail from the enslaved planet Dahna, like the protagonist Alphen. However, Producer Yusuke Tomizawa said more party members have yet to be revealed, including some from the dominant planet Rena.
The Tales of Arise release date trailer also showed one of the Surdo, a group of overlords responsible for enslaving and exploring Dahna’s people and resources.
Combat in Tales of Arise is significantly different from previous Tales of games. Load times going into battle are drastically reduced for a more seamless experience, while there’s no end screen once battle completes. It just transitions back into field exploration.
Combat itself is fast-paced and built around evasion, Tomizawa said, and the usual Artes and Mystical Artes will return in new forms. Characters also have new skills called Boost Skills. Boost Attack is a special move unique to each character that they can perform anytime after meeting the requirements. Boost Strike is a finishing move that changes depending on which characters are in the active party.
