The Sonic Origins Plus release date may have been spoiled by a Korean ratings board, but Sega has officially confirmed that the collection is real and will release on June 23, 2023, for all platforms.
The original Sonic Origins released last year to mixed reception but was a compilation package that included all of the Genesis Sonic games, along with Sonic the Hedgehog CD. The Plus collection will add on to that with 12 Game Gear titles and making Amy Rose playable in each game.
The biggest addition in Sonic Origins Plus is the 12 Game Gear games from Sonic’s past. As revealed in the trailer above, these games will be:
- Sonic Drift
- Sonic Drift 2
- Sonic Labyrinth
- Sonic Chaos
- Sonic Blast
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Sonic the Hedgehog 2
- Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble
- Sonic Spinball
- Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
- Tails’ Skypatrol
- Tails’ Adventure
While many of those sound familiar, these versions were made for Sega’s handheld console during the 90s. A few of them (namely the original Sonic the Hedgehog) had ports to the Sega Master System, but these will be the portable versions of each title. As with the main Sonic Origins package, these games will receive extra challenges for players to complete.
In addition to those new games, Amy Rose will finally become playable in classic Sonic. She’ll be available in the four games originally included in Sonic Origins. Knuckles will also be added to Sonic CD, rounding out this package as the most feature-complete version of all of these games.
Sonic Origins Plus will be available both physically and digitally when it releases on June 23. For those that haven’t purchased the original version, you can grab the entire kit and kaboodle for $39.99. It includes all previously released Origins DLC. Those that already own Origins will be able to upgrade to Plus for $9.99 on their platform of choice. Sonic Origins is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch.
