Destiny 2 has been pushed back from its original launch window. Rumored to release in September 2016, the game looks like it will be out in 2017 instead. After the massive Taken King expansion in the fall of 2015, Bungie hinted that no more expansions of that scale were planned until the sequel.

[It should be noted that everything is speculation, mostly rumors heard from people within the studio per Kotaku.]

Thanks to a contract leaked in 2012, the plans for Bungie’s titles with Activision were laid out in a rough schedule, even though the sequel has not officially been announced or confirmed by Bungie. Basically every two years until 2019, they’ve planned a new title, with a hefty DLC expansion in between games.

The schedule may have been thrown off with the original Destiny being delayed to 2014 when it was expected to release in 2013. Therefore, it was predicted that we would see Destiny 2 with the Taken King DLC coming out last year. The following was quoted from discussions between Kotaku and their inside sources:

Destiny’s future is constantly in flux. Just last week higher-ups at Bungie delayed Destiny 2 out of this September”.

Only an official announcement from Bungie will put all the speculation to rest. In the meantime, we can think about what we want from Destiny 2.
