After the release of 5th edition yesterday, and the new “Tyranny of Dragons” storyline coming soon, it’s hard to imagine anything that could make Dungeons & Dragons fans happier. That didn’t stop Wizards of the Coast from trying, earlier today, when they revealed an upcoming Baldur’s Gate comic series from IDW Publishing.
The series, “Legends of Baldur’s Gate,” written by Jim Zub, derives from Bioware’s popular Baldur’s Gate series of Dungeons & Dragons video games. There will even be a reference to the original series with a few “fan-favorite” characters: Minsc and his hamster, Boo.
Twitter and the rest of the internet is already abuzz with people wondering just how these characters will appear in the story. The author has only given hints thus far, saying in a recent interview that “[he and Wizard’s of the Coast] came up with an ingenious way to be able to bring [Minsc] into the present, 100 years forward from the events of the video game.”
Zub believes that Minsc and Boo will not only serve to draw in fans of the games, but will also interest new fans as well:
“[I]f you’ve never read the stories or played the video games before, you can just jump in and this character is quite appealing and straightforward and you’ll understand what he’s about right from the get-go.”
The comic will also include references to the “Tyranny of Dragons” story, which is another big upcoming release for Wizards of the Coast. “Legends of Baldur’s Gate” comes out this October, so make sure to mark your calendars if you want to find out what happens next to Minsc and Boo.
